NILS LOFGREN'S first solo album settles any fears that another undiscovered talent might have had to tread the unenviable path to obscurity when his group bust up some time ago. Grin were indisputably a great band — mainly through Lofgren's influence, he wrote nearly all the songs — yet they never enjoyed the success that they should have had; maybe now that he's decided to go out alone, he'll reach the audience that on the strength of this album he deserves.
