George Clinton & The Funk Mob

Geoffrey Himes, Unicorn Times, May 1979

GARY SHIDER and Mike Hampton held the stage at the Capital Centre in the fiercest rock'n'roll guitar duet in any local hall recently. Shider's fingers danced through fluid blues notes till they sounded like human sleep noises. Hampton built towering walls of Hendrix space noise. Each guitarist ripped through fast lead runs, but also sustained rich tones resonating with power-driven lust. The duet irresistibly climbed from one peak to the next.
