The Mudd Club: Disco for punks
Jim Farber, Rolling Stone, 12 July 1979
IT'S A rainy night in Manhattan, but about a hundred people are standing outside a disco, slowly getting drenched, desperately hoping they'll be let in. A woman dressed exclusively in Hefty Trash Bags is allowed in quickly, followed by a man who flashes the stub of his arm, which has been amputated at the elbow. When I ask the young woman what makes this place special, she replies tersely: "The door. I like the fact that some people are excluded."
