The Cockettes: Vulgarity or Vanguard?

A SHOW came to New York this week that many people found tedious, offensive and unspeakably vulgar. I want to remind all those people who were so totally outraged by San Francisco's Cockettes of one thing. When Elvis Presley first did his number back in 1956, not only were his pelvic movements considered lewd and vulgar, but his greasy hair and sideburns and entire performing style were the targets for a million sniggers.
