Kasey Chambers: Borderline, London
Lucy O'Brien, The Guardian, 20 July 2000
KASEY CHAMBERS is a 23-year-old New Country artist, from New South Wales rather than Nashville. She has already sold 70,000 copies of her debut album, The Captain, in Australia; now signed to Virgin UK, she's hoping to shift similar amounts here. For a star in the making, she has a reassuringly earthy presence, accompanied onstage by a four piece that includes her guitarist father Bill (referred to throughout as Dad) and brother Nash. Tonight she gazes over the packed crowd and gulps: "There's so many people here. I thought nobody knew me in Britain." When it becomes clear that most of the crowd is made up of raucous fellow Antipodeans, she begins to relax.
