Glenn Phillips' Voices In The Night

Mark Dery, Guitar Player, May 1992

THE POET CHARLES Bukowski believes that greatness is born of ordinary madness. Glenn Phillips would probably agree. In the liner notes for Echoes (1975-1985), a double-CD retrospective released this February by East Side Digital in the States and Virgin overseas, the 42-year-old guitarist teases out the threads in a tangled life, recalling his father's suicide, a shattering event that left him reeling for years.
