Chick Corea's Pop Renaissance

John Swenson, Zoo World, 11 April 1974

"I GREW UP in a musical environment," states Chick Corea matter of factly as he sits cross legged in the main room of the apartment on New York's upper west side that he shares communally with other members of his musical organization, Return to Forever (Forever Unlimited Productions). "My father is a musician — he's 68 now, but he's been playing music all his life. When I was young he had a band, and the 'cats' were always around, y'know the guys would come in after work. My father had a 78 rpm record collection, so there was always music around. My mother bought me a piano very early on and my father started to show me about music early.
