Beenie Man: The Forum, London
Dele Fadele, New Musical Express, 5 October 2002
ARTISTS ARE usually content with whatever audiences they attract. Not so Beenie Man, a former child prodigy turned dancehall reggae veteran at the age of 29. Tonight's one-off show has been carefully stage-managed and niche-promoted to attract a crossover crowd. Whatever the politics involved, it's clear Beenie wants to take dancehall further into the mainstream: hence the surrealism of a show that's essentially a lesson in dancehall-tinged pop.
