THE WATERSONS' latest record was originally planned as a "live" recording at their Hull club — why, I can't think. The idea that folk music is better recorded live rather than in the studio, where adequate facilities and the chance of retakes make performers much more relaxed, has bedevilled us for too long. Very rarely do the introductions sparkle as they seem to in the flesh.
