THE TAXI-Driver left us nervously on the street where Checkpoint Charlie straddles East and West Berlin in a row of ragged, low-key huts and buildings where the bullet-holes are peppered in warning, and where, with a stunning inconspicuousness, our world stops with a jolt and another, unknown space in time opens up like a wound.
