The Manhattans: "Where Motown had the sound of the 60's, Philadelphia has the music for the 70's"

John Abbey, Blues & Soul, 3 December 1974

I MAKE no apologies for admitting that my favourite record of the moment is 'Don 't Take Your Love From Me' by the Manhattans, a group who have, over the years, given us more than their fair share of recorded gems. Yet, in all honesty, they have never enjoyed that really big mammoth success that they are worthy of. In company with so many other excellent groups — they really are too numerous to mention — they consistently turn in perfect records and achieve good sales without actually hitting No 1.
