The Go-Go's: Beauty And The Beat (I.R.S.)

Don Snowden, New York Rocker, October 1981

THE DIFFICULT thing here is reconciling expectations based on long-time familiarity with the vinyl reality. For you, the Go-Go's are the all-female L.A. quintet behind one of 1980's rock disco hits. For me, it's a band that started out as atrocious punkette posers three years ago and evolved into the flipside of the Undertones, complete with power-pop hooks and personality to burn. Like the Undertones, the Go-Go's specialized in revitalizing all those tried-and-true teen themes that the years have turned tired-and-fake.
