SUN RA sat in his Lower East Side apartment, surrounded by the weirdest collection of instruments existing outside a museum. A huge plastic canopy, illuminated from within, accounted for all the ceiling space and shed a crimson glow over the pianist who wore an imitation African shirt, a ten-pointed star glinting metallically from his forehead.
