Spring Heel Jack: Treader (Tugboat)

Carl Loben, Melody Maker, 5 June 1999

NOW UP to their fourth d'n'b album, Spring Heel Jack's John Coxon and Ashley Wales are nothing if not prolific. The orchestral artcore of There Are Strings, the surrealist dark'n'shiny 68 Million Shades, the busy, curious and thirsty, erm, Busy Curious Thirsty, and now this excellent new platter. There's much more to their lush, individualist sound than looping an Amen break and chucking in a couple of cheeky sci-fi FX.
