BETWEEN '76 and '84, all sorts of well-intentioned people used to credit Malcolm McLaren with suss, wit, subversive intelligence and the enviable ability to manipulate every media channel at will. Not any more. The self-styled entryist buccaneer is now a sad mixture of deluded fool and patronising twat. Nothing else explains this dumb meeting of high and lowbrow, or why McLaren feels the general public needs their Puccini and Shakespeare rapped up and scratched to bits before they can assimilate them.
