Larry Coryell: Lady Coryell (Vanguard SVRL 19051)

Mark Williams, International Times, 5 December 1969

THIS IS quite possibly the most important record Philips have put out this year. Coryell is an unclassifiable guitarist and an artist who uses sound as well as music. The fusion he creates with these media is quite distinctive (as Clapton, Stone or Bo Diddley) but has more to it than any guitarist playing a simple solo or riff. Coryell is an experimenter who has no limits and this album is an encapsulated reflection of a brilliant exercise in a search for boundaries.
