In its broadest sense, techno is a form of up-tempo, mainly instrumental electronic dance music, founded in Detroit in the 1980s by producers inspired by Germanic groups such as Kraftwerk and Yello, then toughened up by Europeans at the start of the 1990s and now produced all over the world.
