Heavy D: There's Something About Heavy
Amy Linden, The Source, July 1999
WHEN HEAVY D was just a kid, when he was Dwight Myers, the youngest of six children in a Jamaican immigrant family, he used to dream about what he'd be when he was all grown up. Unlike some of the other children in his Mt. Vernon, NY neighborhood, little Dwight's fantasies didn't involve rescuing grannies from burning buildings, walking on the moon or discovering a magical cure. Dwight wanted to be a star. And Dwight Myers knew that when he was old enough to do so, he would reach out his hand and yank that proverbial brass ring straight off its hinges.
