POP MUSIC turned out not to be quite as disposable as was first thought. Not only is it still going, in modulated, increasingly moribund form, but an awful lot of the old stuff is still with us too: the stuff we were meant to bin along with the polythene headscarves and paper pants which also distinguished the consumer boom of the '60s.
