Folk-rock's Laura Marling, a star in U.K. at 17, hits New York Friday

IN 2006, LAURA Marling, a 16-year-old Brit from Hampshire, started heading to London every week, looking for clubs to play and flats to crash at while she wrote songs. Her carefully crafted folk-rock pieces had lyrics fraught with irony and emotional switchbacks, but they blossomed with her adept guitar and slightly husky voice.
