Dr. Demento's Record Mementos

Judith Sims, Rolling Stone, 8 May 1975

LOS ANGELES — 'Shaving Cream', a 1947 song by Paul Wynn, was an unlikely candidate for the Number One rating on the nation's most popular weekly radio show. But, it was resurrected by Dr. Demento, whose novelty record romp is syndicated in 103 cities and heard by 15 million listeners. Demento's appeal is widespread enough so that when his dose of weird, silly discs began airing on New York's WNBC, 'Shaving Cream' began to sell again and Wynn resumed his career under the name "Benny Bell."
