Average White Band: Academy of Music, New York NY

ONE OF the pleasantest surprises of the musical year awaited those B. B. King and ZZ Top fans who arrived at the Academy of Music early enough last Saturday to hear the first band. Six rangy Scots who go by the name the Average White Band, making their first New York appearance, laid down in their brief (30 minutes) set some of the best soul music heard here in many a month.
