Elvin Bishop and Little Smokey Smothers: Biscuits and Blues, San Francisco
Jeff Calvin, Blues Revue, April 2000
THE STORY GOES that Elvin Bishop left a small town in Oklahoma for Chicago in the early '60s. Once there, drinking in the sounds and sights of the city's booming blues scene, he found a mentor in local guitarist Little Smokey Smothers. Using what he learned, Bishop cofounded The Butterfield Blues Band and later began a busy solo career. Smothers has put out a couple of fine albums since, but he has rarely received attention outside of Chicago.
