TALL, BROAD shouldered — Johnny Cash is a big man, bulky with a dignity weightier than his 39 years. Behind his black shirt front the beginnings of a paunch. Symbolically, he wears only black. His black hair is styled to give him the look of some riverboat gambler from yesteryear, a dandy almost, but powerful. His face lightly tanned, the lines from nose to mouth deep, lips set a little crookedly above a strong jaw and full throat. Brown eyes, frank gaze, but also a suggestion of depths not to be sounded. He speaks well — the voice rich and pleasing, words weighed quickly and spoken with due measure. Confidence without arrogance. He has just been described as a legend; is not embarrassed, neither does he shrug off the component. He simply deflates it:
