He has written about music, films and books for many publications and websites including Classic Rock, The Guardian, Prog, Uncut, Melody Maker, NME, Sounds, Elle, Ikon, The Daily Telegraph, Empire, London Lite, Emusic, Electronic and The Quietus site.
He was also the editor of Idle Worship (Harper Collins), a collection of writings on music by well-known individuals (Bono, Nick Hornby, Thurston Moore, Kristin Hersh etc) that was hailed in the New York Times as "the most original book about rock ‘n’ roll ever". In 2011 he edited Blondie’s Panic Of Girls magazine at the band’s request.
Often appearing on TV and radio, he’s also published books on Lou Reed, Michael Jackson, Tom Jones, Abba, Scarlett Johansson and Heath Ledger. His book on Talk Talk (in collaboration with the band’s sleeve artist James Marsh) was published in September 2012.
He has released well-received albums under the names Alphabet Saints, Catwalk (featuring guest musicians Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly) and Scalaland. His poems accompanied Ellen-Ane Eggen’s photography exhibitions in Oslo and Brussels, and short stories "Crashing" and "The Cake" appeared in L.A. publication Black Clock (edited by Steve Erickson) alongside Don DeLillo, Rick Moody and Jonathan Lethem.
