Wynton Marsalis: Royal Festival Hall, London
Brian Case, Melody Maker, 22 September 1984
TRUST WYNTON Marsalis to try the most difficult crossover of all. There has been very little successful commuting between jazz and classical music, although the virtuoso levels are equally demanding. Andre Previn and Friedrich Gulda dipped a toe into modern jazz, without creating a ripple, and Benny Goodman had a go at Mozart. The problem is the question of touch and tone.
