Wondermints: Borderline, London

John Aizlewood, The Guardian, 17 November 2000

IN THE MOMENTARY SILENCE following 'Global Village Idiot''s harmonic but angular climax, some wag shouts "Surf's Up!" It's part request, part comment and everyone in the crammed Borderline smiles knowingly. Wondermints are a very "smiles knowingly" sort of band. Most of the Los Angeles quintet are Brian Wilson's backing band on his current Pet Sounds tour of the US, the day job that has prevented them from following up 1998's Bali, which finally saw a British release this year.
