Why Vinyl Matters: Lars Ulrich

Jennifer Otter Bickerdike, 'Why Vinyl Matters' (ACC Editions), 2017

LARS ULRICH WAS born in Denmark in 1963. After seeing his first concert at age 10, he became enamoured with the drums. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was 16, where Ulrich met James Hetfield. The two founded legendary Grammy award winning band Metallica. In the 1990s, Ulrich opposed Napster and testified before a Senate Judiciary Committee about copyright infringement. In 2009, Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making Ulrich the first Dane to receive the honour.
