THERE ARE SEVEN of us round the microphone, and I, for one, am a little nervous. I should be, too: three of the voices present are soul instruments of the very highest calibre, and a fourth wrote and sang on a single that stayed at Number 1 in America for six weeks. This is not a sing-song round the pub piano.
