Warren Zevon: The Mutineer And His Bounty

Gerrie Lim, BigO, Spring 1993

LIKE ALL GREAT writers, Warren Zevon likes to quote his own favourite great writers. Graham Greene, for instance, who called his own belief in Christianity "a troubled, paradoxical faith." As Zevon notes, "Greene also said: 'I don't believe. But the trouble is I don't believe my unbelief.'" Which, of course, sounds like a Warren Zevon lyric, which might be why Zevon himself is attracted to that particular quote, though he might well claim to disagree.
