Voice of the Beehive: Let It Bee (PolyGram)

Rob Tannenbaum, Rolling Stone, 12 January 1989

THE BONANZA of new female talent in rock continues. Voice of the Beehive is a five-piece band led by sisters Tracey Bryn and Melissa Brooke, native Californians who moved to England three years ago. On Let It Bee they establish a common ground between golden Pacific Coast Highway harmonies and vintage Merseybeat guitar in a way that immediately suggests a less manicured version of the Bangles. But the Beehive's debut has more hooks than the Bangles' latest, plus a sharper lyrical edge that suggests the Roches or a less cranky Ray Davies.
