ROUGH GUIDE/WMN have issued some excellent pre-war blues sets recently. This set features 26 sides cut between 1926 and 1937 from the Lone Star State – the home state of many pre-war blues pioneers who recorded in a wide range of Texas blues styles including great slide guitar players such as Black Ace who appears on 'You Gonna Need My Help Someday' on Decca from 1936; Jesse "Babyface" Thomas' 'Down In Texas' issued by Victor in 1930 and Oscar Woods' classic 'Don't Sell It, Don't Give It Away' his 1936 classic on Decca.
