Tom Petty: The Forum, Los Angeles

Sylvie Simmons, Sounds, 2 February 1980

LIGHTERS COME on round the arena, a couple of firecrackers go off, then on strides Petty with his rockstar lope, leans into the microphone with his rockstar stoop, pouts the pout (invisible past the twelfth row but you know it's there), sneers the sneer, surveys the 18,000-strong cocktail party below and dives into 'Shadow Of A Doubt', 'Anything That's Rock And Roll' and 'Fooled Again', without coming up for air.
