THE LONG hot summer of 1976 was not a great time to be a pop kid. Brotherhood Of Man and Showaddywaddy (ask your dad) dominated the charts, the seditious Pistols and their art-school acolytes were huddled together in the virtual anonymity of a Soho gay bar plotting an imminent revolution, and the cobweb-strewn music press was slobbering over the imminent arrival of the Rolling Stones' touring party while highly recommending the likes of Cado Belle and Moon. Who? Exactly.
