The Stray Cats

Jon Young, Trouser Press, 1982

THEIR LOOKS and their sound may strike some as a bit suspect, but there's no doubting the Stray Cats' affection for the classic rock 'n' roll styles they salute in their music. When Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker arrive at EMI America Records in Manhattan, Hank Williams's music is drifting out of an open office — and that's like showing red meat to a hungry dog! As ol' Hank moans about the 'Lovesick Blues', the boys bop around the room; it takes a good five minutes after the song ends for them to settle down enough to talk.
