SUGARHILL RECORDS was formed in 1979 by Joe and Sylvia Robinson and by early 1980 had presented the world with a "new" music – rap. They were the pioneers in the marketing and selling of a musical genre that would totally transform America's urban music industry and deliver a totally new form of African American music. The first release on the label was 'Rapper's Delight' by the Sugarhill Gang, which exploded across America's inner cities during October of 1979.
