The Selector: Too Much Pressure (2-Tone CDLTT5002)
Vivien Goldman, Melody Maker, 9 February 1980
A GENT FROM a reggae shop asked me what I thought of 2-Tone. He informed me that since the advent of the checkerboard whirlwind, the interest of white kids in reggae, specially of the "Praise Jah" variety, had declined dramatically. Predictable; the militancy of reggae always meant more to non-Rastas than the spirituality, unless you were interested enough to make the laborious switch of meaning from Jah to a creator without such marked sexist tendencies.
