The Pogues and Joe Strummer: Town & Country Club, London

David Quantick, New Musical Express, 4 January 1992

THE EVENING starts, bizarrely enough. In a pub which is not only playing the whole of The Best of The Pogues but whose bar is also graced by the presence of Spider Stacy in conversation with Shane MacGowan, who is later seen in the T&C's foyer. Shane's absence is almost embarrassingly obvious during tonight's show. Short of putting a huge photograph of him above the words 'SHANE MACGOWAN IS NOT SINGING TONIGHT' on the backdrop, this concert could not have drawn attention to the lack of MacGowan more powerfully if it tried.
