The Monochrome Set: Dante's Casino

David Cavanagh, Select, October 1990

WHAT A TURN UP FOR THE BOOKS. The Monochrome Set, never a band to pay any heed to the prevailing pop climate, have reformed. Now longer of hair, even more oblivious to trend, and with original guitarist Lester Square back in the lead twangster's stool, they've furtively accepted some bucks from the Japanese to tour, do an album and be a group again. Head Set honcho, Bid, has written ten new tunes, a shadowy cove known only as Orson Presence has been drafted in on keyboards, and here we are: the first Monochrome Set album in seven years.
