The MC5 Kick Out The Jams!

Geoffrey Cannon, Oz, 1 February 1969

2019 note: My Oz episodes — 2. My first piece for Oz, "Why isn't London jumping?", a tirade against the BBC's programming of pop music, was published in the December 1968 issue, coincident with the time when I was being interviewed for the job of editor of Radio Times, the BBC's television and radio programme journal. I was offered the job in January 1969, and suddenly remembered that Oz was holding another piece by me, on the impact and significance of the Detroit band the MC5. I had offered it to Oz knowing it was too strong for The Guardian.

Total word count of piece: 2348
