The Live Wire: Billy Joe Shaver at McCabe's

Bill Wasserzieher, L.A. View, 27 October 1995

BILLY JOE SHAVER seemed the archetypal Texas good ol' boy at McCabe's Friday night, dressed in a washed-out denim shirt and a western hat that would never be confused with the ones favored by mainstream Opry acts. But despite his aw-shucks, give-me-a-bottle-of-Lone Star look, the man's a complicated piece of work with a poet's eye and ear, despite being raised in a Waco barroom run by his mother.

Total word count of piece: 472
