BLOND, FLESHLY-FACED and 30 years old, Jim Carroll was slated for status as a rock poet back in '71. Meant to be the other half of the Patti Smith/Lenny Kaye bill at St Mark's Church, Carroll missed that historic first fusion of rock and verse for a night in the clink when some dealer friends he called upon got busted.
