The Faces: Live — Coast To Coast (Mercury)

Jon Tiven, Zoo World, 11 March 1974

MIND YOU, it's not that I dislike Rod Stewart, for I think he sings very well despite the fact that it sounds like some hostess cut off his twinkie. It doesn't even bother me that Stewart was at his best when Jeff Beck was the name of his group, though Stewart hasn't stopped slagging Beck since he left; we're living in an enlightened age where people can leave groups for extramusical reasons such as money problems. It's just that The Faces' charm may hold up in concert (then again it may not, depending upon the receptivity of the audience), but on record it falls flat as Aunt Jemima.
