EIGHT YEARS AFTER I first saw the White Stripes play in the back room of the Boston Arms pub in Tufnell Park, North London, Jack White chose the same low-rent venue to unveil his astonishing new group, the Dead Weather. On a parcel of stage, crammed into a corner by the loos, the quartet put on a performance of crushing power and breathtaking drama.
