The David Bowie tribute concerts

LAST JANUARY, when promoter Michael Dorf announced that he'd finally received permission from David Bowie to be the subject of his annual tribute benefit concert, Bowie fans went from elation to heartbreak overnight. David left the planet hours after the tickets went on sale, and suddenly, the excited hope that this could be Bowie's first live appearance in a decade vanished. Carnegie Hall sold out in seconds, prompting Dorf to get approval to hold a second show at Radio City Music Hall the next night.
