DALLAS — While a Memphis band's Beatles mimicry penetrated the thin walls of the clammy locker room in the Electric Ballroom, keyboard player Ernie Cate sat in the corner. Hands stuffed in his peacoat, he shuddered to himself as his guitar-playing sibling Earl, Ernie's junior by eight minutes, sized up the evening's mood.
