The Beat Goes On: For the Fourth Decade in a Row, Cher Hits a High Note

CHER KNOWS WHAT it means to ride rock and roll's wild roller coaster. Over the years, she has zoomed to the top and plummeted to the bottom, but she's philosophical about it. "If I had my choice of the two places, the top is better. But, for me, it doesn't change who I am,'' she says, speaking from a tour bus earlier this week. "It doesn't change my position in the community. The people that I am friends with don't care too much about that kind of stuff.''
