The Band: Rock of Ages (Capitol E-STSP 11)

Karl Dallas, Let It Rock, February 1973

IT IS WHAT The Band leave out as much as what they include that makes them impressive. Among all the welter of ego-tripping pyrotechnicians which are taking over one end of rock these days (leaving the other end to be occupied by mindless heavy metal or teen-exploitation groups, by default) only the Band and the Dead seem to sketch in the outlines of their music, leaving the audience to fill in the details out of their own musical experience.
