Ten City: City Slickers

Jeff Lorez, Blues & Soul, 30 April 1991

LAST ISSUE De La Soul made the comment: "the less talented you are as a singer, the better you seem to do in the commercial market." Well, I suppose such observations, along with those like, "It's too good to make the charts" or "it'll be too classy for the masses" are ones readers of B&S will be more than familiar with. In short it's what separates art from commerciality. It also means that the road to success for the genuine artists can be a very gruelling, disillusioning and frustrating one. However, when that success finally arrives it will be long lasting and far reaching, with all the early trials and tribulations seeming worthwhile.
