2019 Note: Tangerine Dream were the first band to play in East Berlin after the fall of the Wall. It had been ten years since their last show there. I had been behind the iron curtain several times as a child, to more romantic places like Prague and Yugoslavia, but had never seen anything as soul-crushingly grey and grim as East Berlin. In hindsight, I could have been more charitable about the cowed locals. What a sweet irony that it is now the go-to Metropol for youth from all parts of Europe. Now read on...
